A mosaic of gardens

A mosaic of interconnected gardens, designed by the landscape architects at Studio GPT around the house renovated by architect Franco Segre in the hills of Varese, aims to integrate the green project with the surrounding landscape. Small groups of birch trees create wooded areas that alternate with open spaces, gradually revealing the garden and the house. Patches of Miscanthus surround the birch trees, creating a very natural effect. Further on, islands of prairie (a mix of grasses, perennial flowers and bulbs) adorn the place, making it interesting to venture to the edge to discover flowers, colours and scents that change with each season.

To the side of the pedestrian entrance, created using large concrete stepping stones with a line of light inserted, is the traditional swimming pool, preceded by a sunken garden and surrounded by a mixed border of shrubs and perennial herbaceous plants with staggered flowering. From the rest area, the gaze runs towards the lawn that frames Monte Rosa.

The organically shaped bio-pool echoes the lakes below. To the side, there is a shaded area thanks to plane trees pruned into a “roof”. There are alternating gravel and wooden-paved rest areas, one of which is an island between the pool and the regeneration area with aquatic plants.

Partial yew hedges divide some areas of the park. The flower garden is preceded by mulberry trees that act as a portal together with simple arches to accommodate climbing roses.

Each area of the garden has been designed to be enjoyed and appreciated even at dusk and in the dark, thanks to a series of scenic elements that alternate light and dark and discreet service lighting elements.
